Inside Out (2015)
Inside Out
It really is hard to find fault with this film. This is my second time seeing it, and I enjoyed it immensely more than the first time. I definitely think that’s because I’m more mature now and actually took time to appreciate the message and depth of the film. The whole premise is so unique, and explores a territory of the human mind in a way most films haven’t. It literally takes all the main emotions in your head, and characterizes them in a way that makes you feel empathy and understanding. Of course, we don’t actually have little tiny people in our heads, but the whole film is a good representation of how emotions can react. I might not enjoy this as much as some people, because it’s hard for me to relate to an 11 year old girl (it would be weird if I could). But even then, it has great life lessons for every gender and age. But yes, the story is very well written, and I find very few flaws. The voice cast does an OUTSTANDING job, literally for every single character. Even the ones with like 5 seconds of screen time. Amy Poehler, Mindy Kaling, Bill Hader, Phyllis Smith, and Lewis Black are all perfect and we couldn’t have asked for anyone better. Plus, Kyle MacLachlan plays Riley’s dad, so that’s freaking sweet. I love that man. Lastly, the animation is some of the best animation in the last 25 years, and I don’t say that lightly. A lot of the real world scenes might seem kind of normal, but every single scene inside Riley’s head is beautiful, personal, and creative. The whole design of the inside of her brain, the workings of her brain/emotions, and all her memories, is just genius. It puts it in a way for kids to understand, and be very entertaining. I just can’t go on about this film enough. Overall, it’s a great piece of work that exemplifies the importance and effect of each emotion, and it does it in a very relatable way. I’d recommend it to everyone. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
