Taxi Driver (1976)
Taxi Driver
From the opening to the end, this movie was amazing. Scorsese did a phenomenal job with the direction he took this movie. De Niro put on an amazing show as Travis Bickle, and I absolutely loved his character. He did such a great job with the character progression, and I particularly liked how throughout the movie I was battling back and forth whether Travis was gonna be the hero or the villain. And I can definitely say that the soundtrack to this movie is probably one of my favorites that I’ve ever heard. The saxophone and smooth jazz throughout the film really set the mood for the New York nights, and it made each scene feel so much more realistic. I especially love two specific shots that I absolutely have to mention: (1) the first few opening minutes that showed De Niro’s eyes and the New York streets and lights was really great cinematography, and I loved it, and (2) the shot of De Niro holding his finger to his head with the blood dripping off his finger was freaking fantastic. And a special shout-out to the make up department (for the awesome bald cap), and to the person who designed the gun holder that Travis had in his sleeve (it inspired the grappling gun that Batman carries in The Batman). This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
