The Breakfast Club (1985)
The Breakfast Club
Although a little cheesy at times, this movie is certainly a classic, and I understand why it’s remembered the way it is. I’m not always a super huge fan of high school dramas or teen movies, but this one does it in a great way. I never really found myself getting bored, except for maybe a select few scenes. There’s kind of always something happening, whether it be some tomfoolery, or heartfelt discussion. It’s a great blend of comedy and drama. Some moments are for laughing, and some are for learning. The writing is just great. The story is so simple, yet so powerful. It’s literally just five students in detention, but you take away much more than that. Of course, there’s a couple flaws, but nothing too disturbing. I love how you get all of the big high school stereotypes in this, so no matter what your life is like, you can identify with one (or more) of the characters. Personally, Brian reminds me a lot of myself. All the actors did a great job of convincing students (for the most part). I love how some of the scenes were ad-libbed, and it was up to them to deliver the dialogue in a way that moves the audience. It helps authenticate the feeling of the movie. Overall, it was touching and funny, and I’d definitely recommend it to all drama lovers. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
