Jaws (1975)
Jaws
As much as I hate to say it, this movie didn’t really cut it for me. Is it bad that I prefer both Meg movies over this one? Probably, but we all have our own opinions. I’m certainly not saying this is a bad movie, cause it isn’t. However, it just felt sooooo long, and I was kind of happy when it was over. The first 90 minutes just went on and on and on. I think my problem was that I got my expectations too high for this, so it didn’t seem as good as I was expecting. A lot of the story was more about strategy and hunting and killing the shark, whereas I basically just wanted the shark to go crazy on humans a bunch of times. I think that’s why I like the Meg movies more, because they are more about the sharks just eating people for fun. The story of this movie was good, but like I said, it just felt slow. I really enjoyed all the characters, though. They each added a special little flare to the movie. The performances were executed beautifully, so you can really feel all the emotion and fear through the TV screen. One of the best things of the movie is the physical props for the shark. Movies nowadays seriously fail at using real props and prosthetics, which sometimes affects the movie experience. In this case, you basically get an actual shark, which is why Steven Spielberg is so great (I mean, have you seen this and ‘Jurassic Park’?) But most of all, my favorite thing about the movie was the score. It’s just so freaking perfect, like every other John Williams score ever. The main Jaws theme is one of the most iconic themes of all time, and one of my personal favorites. It’s easily one of the most ominous, haunting, and scary themes in film history. Overall, this movie was very well made, except for the fact that I was very bored throughout most of it. I’d probably recommend it to all action/monster fans, especially if you like movies such as ‘The Meg’. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
