Godzilla Minus One (2023)
Godzilla Minus One
Never would I ever have thought this would have been this good. Seriously. I was decently excited for it for the weeks leading up to its release, but upon seeing it, I’m basically at a loss for words. No monster should ever have the right to be this good. I literally can’t even describe how good it is. It was just so captivating. Even though I haven’t seen the most amount of Godzilla movies, this one EASILY takes the trophy for being the best one of all time. Gareth Edwards was right when he said this is what a Godzilla movie should be. It’s perfect. In every way. Even the few little things I nitpicked aren’t enough to bring this score down below 100%. I know I throw around perfect scores pretty leniently, but this one deserves it. The story is so well crafted, with fantastic characters and insanely incredible action scenes. Every second Godzilla was on screen, I was just sucking in his beautiful design. To me, this rivals Shin Godzilla’s design. The CGI was some of the best I’ve ever seen, and even though it’s special effects, it still looks like it could’ve been suitmation. You need to lay eyes on it yourself. Every single detail was flawless. The characters, like I mentioned, were flawless. There’s one little thing I wasn’t a super huge fan of (involving a certain female), but I’m willing to overlook it because of how great this movie was. It’s a Godzilla movie that keeps your attention even when he isn’t on screen. The writing was just brilliant. Finally, the score is one of the best scores I’ve heard this decade, and it’s very close to being one of my favorite scores of the year. It’s sad, it’s ominous, it’s one of the most prettiest and most scariest compositions I’ve heard in recent times. Overall, this movie is perfect in every way, and I would highly recommend it to literally everyone. This film is officially Berry Approved, so if you get a chance to see it in IMAX or RPX, then GO DO IT!
