The Curse of La Llorona (2019)
The Curse of La Llorona
This was about what I expected it to be. Somewhat entertaining, but boring with no stakes. It basically felt like every other movie about a supernatural force that terrorizes people. Now, I once saw a good episode of Ghost Adventures about La Llorona and that whole folktale, so I’ve always been interested in watching it. I like all the stories around La Llorona, but the movie doesn’t do her justice. It wasn’t too bad enjoyment-wise, but it doesn’t really explore her past all that much. There was a total of like five minutes of history, and besides that, she’s just a crazy dead ghost lady who kills kids. Sounds fun, but not that much. There weren’t any good scares, at least compared to the more supreme ConjuringVerse movies. Her design wasn’t super great either. You have entities like Annabelle and Valak, which are all peak horror designs. But then you go to La Llorona, who looks like a Spirit Halloween costume. The acting wasn’t great, and half of it was just screaming. It wasn’t bad, just not good. Overall, it’s definitely one of the weakest ConjuringVerse movies, and one of my least favorites. It has its fun moments, but as a whole, it’s slow and not very driven to get to anything. I’d probably rewatch it in a ConjuringVerse marathon, but I wouldn’t watch it just to watch it. Hopefully you can guess my recommendation based on the last few sentences.
