The Case for Christ (2017)
The Case for Christ
“There is no ‘what if’ with God.” This is easily one of the most inspirational and powerful movies I’ve ever seen, and if I could make everyone watch this at some point in their life, then I would. I distinctly remember the first time I ever watched this, and I was just so moved by it. After seeing it, I remember thinking about this movie for literal weeks, and I immediately went and bought it at Barnes and Noble. I’m gonna give a quick synopsis, so if you don’t want to know about the plot, then skip the next few lines. It’s about Lee Strobel, a journalist, who, after his wife becomes a Christian, decides to try to debunk Christianity and the resurrection. However, after months of research, everything he finds points back to the truth in Christ’s death and resurrection, and Lee himself becomes converted. It’s such a powerful story that does a great job of portraying one man’s faith and spiritual journey. I also like how it’s not just all about Lee’s Biblical research, but it also shows some of his police investigations as well. It’s based on a true story (and the book), which makes the movie’s meaning even deeper. Each character is really awesome, and although there are only a couple notable actors, every single person in this movie adds to it in some way. Mike Vogel and Erika Christensen give fantastic performances, and they help make the movie what it is. They both do a great job of demonstrating their emotions, both towards each other, as well as their relationship with God. I also really enjoyed L. Scott Caldwell as Alfie. To me, she’s the main anchor of the movie. The music was pretty good, and I really enjoyed the score. It’s hard to explain the feel it gives, it’s just a score you have to hear for yourself. Plus, the inclusion of “Carry On Wayward Son” helps fit the time and setting. Overall, this is one of the most moving and emotional movies I’ve ever seen, and I highly recommend EVERYONE watch this at least once. Please. Give it a chance, even if you’re not religious. I promise it will affect you in ways you won’t even understand. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
