The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
Oh look, it’s another unnecessary reboot of a perfect movie that should never need a reboot! You can clearly tell that I’m happy that this was made! For real, what the heck. I just get so made that these classic films have to always get remade, and it’s starting to tick me off. I will say that it’s nice to move on from the old franchise and start fresh. After the original one, everything was in the dump, so that may be why they wanted something new but still paying homage to the original. In that sense, this movie works, but it’s still not great. The plot was somewhat similar to the original, but introducing new characters, and going in a slightly different direction. I mostly like what was done with the family, and like I just stated, how there’s new characters. This is the first movie since the original that actually did a good job with Leatherface. He actually looks cool again, as well as getting some backstory. I love his mask, and of course, his chainsaw. I also loved seeing Mike Vogel in this. I can’t think of much more to add at the moment, just that this movie wasn’t needed, and it wasn’t anything special. However, it does some things its own way, which is nice to see. I’m mixed if I’d recommend this. If you like slashers, then this is decent, but besides that, you’re not missing out if you don’t watch it.
