X (2022)

This is such a unique movie, even if you don't realize it at first. To me, the whole thing basically felt like it was almost a spoof of a 70’s horror flick, while still being very serious and it’s own thing. It reminded me of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in a few ways, such as the setting and some themes. The story was good, with a classic horror feel. It does take a few minutes for it to build up, but it does eventually. I’d say the last 30 minutes were easily the best. It constantly keeps you guessing with what's gonna happen. The cast was great, though I loved Jenna Ortega (because she’s Jenna Ortega), and of course, Mia Goth. Mia’s dual role was amazing, and she had me fooled. I didn’t realize she played Pearl until the main credits rolled, so that shows you how good of a job she did. The makeup/effects department also did quite a smashing job. All the deaths were also very fun, and definitely gore galore. Overall, this movie is absolutely awesome. It's definitely not groundbreaking, but it does a great job of feeling like a throwback, while still being original. I’d recommend it to all horror fans.
