Nickel Boys (2024)
Nickel Boys
This is, quite easily, one of the best films from 2024, and by a long shot. It’s easily on the top 10, if not top 5. Maybe even top 3. I was absolutely blown away by the end of this, especially the last 15ish minutes. It was gut wrenching and just…..emotionally draining. And I can’t really explain why because it wouldn’t make sense unless you’ve spent time with the characters. But the way the film is edited and sets you up to be in the shoes of the characters was genius. Just the way this was shot is enough to make it amazingly good, and then you throw in everything else and it’s a masterpiece. The story isn’t too complicated, but makes a very deep impact on your heart and soul. You grow to be attached to Elwood and Turner, and mentally, their struggles become your struggles. I just feel empty after watching this. But that’s what makes this so great, because it makes you feel ways you normally wouldn’t feel. The performances from everyone were extremely grounded, and though there wasn’t one that was like, “Oh my gosh this is groundbreaking!”, they all felt authentic and relatable. The score was extremely profound in this, and adds a deep feeling that puts even more meaning on the story and characters. I don’t know if there’s anything else I can even say about this. I still feel so touched by this, even hours after watching it. I guess all you need to know is that it’s powerful, educational, and should be seen by everyone at some point in their life. I certainly understand why it has a Best Picture nomination. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
