Hereditary (2018)
Hereditary
This is definitely one of the best horror movies of the 2010’s. In fact, it's one of the best horror movies ever made. The story is pretty good all around, and definitely disturbing. The entire movie had an extremely unsettling feel, and even in the normal and more relaxed scenes, you’re still paranoid. In a way, it kind of felt like Sinister. It obviously has a different story and characters, but the whole vibe of the movie is pretty terrifying. You’re constantly wondering what’s happening, as well as what’s to come. It keeps you guessing, while still providing information that leads to a new event. A lot of the story makes sense, but I definitely had questions once the movie wrapped up. The last few minutes are extremely nerve wracking, which is what helps the movie have its scary feel. And there was one shot in particular that is probably one of the most grotesque and disturbing things I’ve ever seen in any movie. The acting was phenomenal, and each actor greatly contributed to their roles. I especially loved Alex Wolff, who did a fantastic job. They all presented their emotions in a raw way, which helped build the constant feel of paranoia and fear. And don’t even get me started on the score. It’s easily one of the best horror movie scores I’ve ever heard in my life. A lot of the time, horror movie scores are cheesy and cliche, but this one really stands out. The entire time, it adds so much feeling to each scene, although not necessarily good feelings. The very end theme, which is iconic, was so well arranged, and I love how that’s what you’re left with. Overall, this is one of the most disturbing movies I’ve seen, and it doesn’t rely on jump scares to terrify you. I would highly recommend it to all horror fans.
