Interstellar (2014)
Interstellar
I’ve waited way too long to watch this. I can’t really tell you why, it just took me forever to get around to it. Now that I finally did, I fully understand the significance and importance of this film. It’s probably the best sci-fi movie since ‘The Empire Strikes Back’. It’s easily a top 10 sci-fi movie of all time, if not top 5. It’s groundbreaking, mesmerizing, captivating, all of the above. Despite the almost three hour runtime, I didn’t really feel it at all. The film does feel long, but I never checked how much time was left, or checked the clock at all. Much like Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’, you get so sucked in that you don’t pay attention to the film length. You just live in the moment and appreciate everything shown to you. The story is complex and has great pacing, but of course, I’m not gonna give away any specifics. I just think the Nolan boys did an incredible job with the screenplay. The way all the events and people fall into place by the end is truly superb. I love how you’re just able to understand what happened, and at the same time, it’s just complicated enough to leave you mystified and thirsty for more. Absolutely brilliant is what it is. The acting was terrific as well. Not only is the cast completely stacked, but every character has a pretty significant role. McConaughey does phenomenal, and the fact that he wasn’t nominated for an Academy Award blows my mind. Anne Hathaway was great alongside him, as was everyone else. The score by Hans Zimmer is one of his best, and helps carry the film. Without that score, it wouldn’t have the emotional impact that it has. Lastly, the visual effects were some of the best I’ve ever seen, and better than most movies today. The Oscar was certainly deserved for the CGI. Overall, this is one of the best sci-fi movies ever made, and I would highly recommend it to all sci-fi fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
