What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962)
What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?
Easily one of the creepiest and best psychological thrillers ever made, this is probably on my top list of greatest movies ever made. I enjoy it, but it can definitely be hard to watch more than once or twice. The first several minutes are just backstory, and though interesting, the movie does take a little bit to really get started. However, once it does, it goes into full force. The acting duo of Davis and Crawford is amazing, and their real life feud makes their relationship on screen so much better and more intense (even barbaric). Bette Davis was the one who scares me the most, though. Her portrayal of Baby Jane is so amazing, and I’d probably put her performance in the top 5 greatest pieces of acting of all time. She did a freaking fantastic job of being able to portray someone to the point of insanity, and once she snaps, she is so convincing in her role. In fact, in several scenes, she’s actually pretty scary, and she’s one of the very few female movie characters that have actually scared me. The story is also really unique, and I really love how it shows what fame can do to a person, especially at a young age. It also helps show the struggles and effects of jealousy and greed. This film also has some insanely good shots, and even though it’s not a Hitchcock film, it has that same feel to it. Most everything about this movie keeps you invested, and there are a few scenes that definitely get your heart pumping. It’s pretty nerve wracking, and that’s what helps make it so good. The ending is also really good as well, and it helps complete and finish the story, but definitely not the way you expect. It was also fun to see Victor Buono in this movie (he played King Tut in the ‘66 Batman series, so it’s fun to see him again). This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
