Murder on the Orient Express (2017)
Based on the book of the same name, I wasn’t as impressed as I thought I’d be. Now, the book by Agatha Christie is one of my favorite books of all time. In fact, I loved it so much that I made my own 28 minute Lego stop motion movie of the book. So to say that this film is personal to me is an understatement. However, I was definitely a bit disappointed, as it strays away from several things from the book. A lot was added/changed in the movie to give it a more dramatic and thrilling feel. I’m not necessarily against it, but I also am a huge fan of sticking to source material. Still, the movie was pretty fun, except that I already knew what was gonna happen (so no new surprises for me). The story is pretty good, but that’s all I’ll say for spoilers sake. It’s definitely one you need to experience for yourself. I really loved Kenneth Branagh as Hercule Poirot, who is EASILY one of my favorite book characters ever. To see that character come to life in the last few years is so special for me. The rest of the cast is completely stacked, and each and every person added a great, mysterious element to the plot. Get a load of this awesome cast: Branagh, Dench, Depp, Ridley, Pfeiffer, Cruz, Gad, Dafoe, Odom Jr. Just so amazing. The music was pretty solid, and it added a nice suspenseful tone to the whole picture. Overall, most of the movie was good, though several scenes strayed away from the original story. I would recommend it to everyone who likes mysteries/crime movies, and the sequel to this is also fantastic. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
