Moonrise Kingdom (2012)
Moonrise Kingdom
To nobody's surprise, I am once again classifying another Wes Anderson movie as perfect. What can I say? The dude is the greatest filmmaker of all time. From what I’ve seen, a lot of people consider this his finest work, and I can certainly understand why. It’s such a brilliantly written story about love and adventure. It’s a great coming-of-age movie that I think every young teen should watch at some point. The whole thing feels like something somebody would dream as a kid, and the theme of love isn’t too much, but just enough to make you feel sappy inside. I can’t go into detail about the plot, but not necessarily because of spoilers. You just kind of have to walk the same path that the characters did, and you will only understand this review once you actually see the movie. I say that a lot, but I’m serious. The writing was just so on point. For both the story and the characters. I loved every single person in this film, even if they weren’t written to be super likable. Sam and Suzy were so personable, and you learn to become their friends as you go throughout the movie. The cast was stacked as always, but one thing I love was putting two unknowns in the lead. Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward did such a good job. Their chemistry was just so pure, and it’s cool seeing two actors do as good a job as they did, especially when I haven’t seen or heard of them before. My final few thoughts are this: the cinematography was mind bogglingly beautiful, and the color scheme makes this a great autumn movie. Also, the score was amazing like always, and Alexandre Desplat outdid himself once again. Overall, this movie is perfect like literally every other Anderson film, and I’d highly, highly recommend it to all romance lovers. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
