Prey (2022)
Prey
Am I the only one who thinks this is slightly overrated? I can certainly understand why the critics love it, and in many instances, I thoroughly agree. It’s a very refreshing addition to a mediocre franchise, and honestly, this is probably the only other actually good Predator movie besides the first one. But for me personally, I found many parts of it to feel a little bland. The best part of the movie was the change of scenery. All of the Predator movies take place in more recent times, whereas this one is in 1719, and it deals with Native Americans. It takes you back to the beginning with an older look for the Predator, which was pretty sweet. It’s not what I’m used to, but it still looked great. The story didn’t feel like anything new, as it was another standard survival storyline, with some added cultural elements. The action scenes were awesome, and much better than some other Predator movies. They were very well shot and extremely smooth. You could tell what was happening while still having plenty of movement to make you feel like you were in the action scenes. The characters were not super great, though. In all honesty, Naru is the only good character in the whole movie. Everyone else just felt like filler characters to me. I also don’t think the acting was super good either. Most everybody felt like they weren’t putting too much effort into the dialogue. Very stale. But that may just be me. But I’m not here for them, I’m here for a freaking Predator, and that’s what I got. It took several minutes to get there, but once you do, it’s awesome. Overall, this movie was well made, and though it had a couple weak components, it’s pretty solid all around. There were some scenes that just felt too long and drawn out, but it was pretty good. I’d recommend it to most sci-fi/action fans.
