Air (2023)
Air
This is easily the best sports drama since Moneyball, and I actually liked this more than Moneyball. The whole thing was just completely fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed it, as it pulls you in and keeps you entertained. It’s obviously based on a true story, so the historical basis is what helps make it awesome. I also like how the movie puts you in the exact situation that the characters were in. It’s such a great perspective. Now, I will say that I basically hate the NBA, and it’s probably my least favorite sports league/association. That being said, I probably wouldn’t have seen this if it hadn’t been directed by my dad Ben Affleck. However, I obviously loved it, and it’s great for non-basketball fans such as myself. Each character is so well portrayed, as Matt Damon, Christ Tucker, Viola Davis, Jason Bateman, and Ben Affleck (of course) outperform once again. They are all just so likable. There is plenty of great comedic relief, as well as some serious and heartwarming scenes. The speech scene in the Nike conference room with Sonny speaking to MJ is so incredible. Although I’m not a huge basketball fan, it made me want to run through a wall. In fact, the whole movie is powerful. The soundtrack was also insanely good. It perfectly places you right in the 80’s. The song list is stacked with so many awesome hits. I also love the nostalgia factor of the movie. I wasn’t alive in the 80’s, but seeing old basketball reels, commercials, movie scenes, and all that was so cool. Overall, this movie was dang near perfect, and easily one of my favorites of 2023. The story, the characters, the acting, the music, literally everything was great. I would highly recommend it to all sports/drama fans, especially if you like movies like Moneyball. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
