A Haunting in Venice (2023)
A Haunting in Venice
I can certainly say that I very much enjoyed this. With Agatha Christie being one of my favorite authors ever (and Hercule Poirot being one of my favorite book characters ever), I was super excited when I first found out this was getting made. It’s such a great follow up to ‘Death on the Nile’, even though the two aren’t related, story-wise. It’s a good continuation of Poirot’s character, as well as being able to see Kenneth Branagh’s directing skills. I just love what he does with the character. I think looking back at this Poirot trilogy, ‘Death on the Nile’ is still my favorite of the three. However, this is a very close second. It was very well made, with an exciting, intriguing, and extremely ominous story. Now, it is kind of your average whodunnit, but with some great twists and great direction from the cast and crew. I LOVED how it’s set in Venice, and if you know me, then you know how I love Italy and the Italian culture. So the architecture and overall atmosphere was perfect for this plot. I’m not gonna go into specifics about the story, solely to keep from spoiling it. Just know that it’s not always what you think. Character-wise, they all add something special to the movie, with each having a significant role. The acting was spot on, especially from Branagh and Tina Fey. It was refreshing to see her in a non-comedic role. Overall, this movie was very well made, and though not my favorite of the three, it was still super awesome. Plus, they left a little bit of wiggle room at the end for a potential fourth installment. I’d most definitely recommend this to all crime and mystery lovers. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
