Meet Me in St. Louis (1944)
Meet Me in St. Louis
The fact of the matter is this: ‘Meet Me in St. Louis’ is simply one of the greatest movies ever made. It shouldn't even be a question. What’s even better about this movie is how you can watch it any season of the year, and it will always make sense. It features all the seasons in it, with the inclusion of Halloween and Christmas. Now technically, I shouldn’t classify this as a Christmas movie, seeing as only a quarter of it is actually set during Christmas. However, I always watch this come December, because the Christmas segment is so special and emotional. Judy Garland singing “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” is so heartwarming and usually makes me tear up everytime. Nobody does it quite like her. The whole soundtrack is beautifully played and sung. “The Boy Next Door” and “The Trolley Song” are both big highlights for me. The story is great as well. Like I said, all the seasons are displayed, so you get to see time pass, but it’s done very smoothly. The setting and time add a fantastic touch to the movie. Set in 1903, you have the old timey feel, with the fancy suits and dresses that were everyday wear. The costume design was brilliant. Finally, not a single member of the cast did a bad job. Judy Garland and Margaret O’Brien did amazing jobs. You get to learn about each character, and by the end, you feel like you’ve grown close to all of them. Overall, this movie is perfect in every way. I would highly recommend it to all holiday/drama/comedy fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out NOW!
