The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (1966)

The Ghost and Mr. Chicken

  • I’m having chicken noodle soup with Alma! This is very easily my favorite movie to watch around Halloween. Although it’s not actually set on or during Halloween, it’s still my absolute favorite to watch in October every year. To me, it’s one of the funniest movies ever made, and I’m constantly laughing throughout the whole thing. Even in the serious moments, there is still always some kind of action or detail that is completely hilarious. Don Knotts absolutely kills it as Luther, and he is able to make one of the funniest characters I’ve seen in a movie. The whole movie is terrifically made, and although you may think it feels dumb, it’s really good. The story is really well written and hilarious, and it was actually loosely based on an Andy Griffith episode (The Haunted House, S4 E2). The great thing about it is that it’s a comedy, along with keeping a light hearted spooky element along with it. It’s definitely one of the funniest movies ever made, and I guarantee that there is absolutely no way to watch this with a straight face. The music is insanely good too, and it’s a perfect combination of mystery and spooky. The main theme is extremely enjoyable, and it perfectly matches the feel of the story. My favorite part of the movie is how the testimony of one man about some ghosts is actually put on trial, and it’s a plot that you seldom see. Most supernatural movies are just ghosts and action, whereas in this one, you actually get to see the community of the town decide for themselves if the supernatural stories are true. Plus, the whole courtroom scene is arguably the funniest part of the whole movie. Overall, this is a great movie all around, and I would highly recommend watching it on Halloween. That’s the great thing, is that you could watch it anytime of the year, but it’s so much more fun to see during the spooky season. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
