Some Rap Songs (2018)
Some Rap Songs
Yeah, not a huge fan. I will say that I actually enjoyed this a little more than I thought I would, though I still don’t like it. This will definitely be a shorter review, just cause I don’t feel like I can talk too much about it. For a few of the songs, such as “Shattered Dreams”, “Ontheway!”, and “Riot!”, had really good backing tracks. The music itself was very solid, with a strong beat and good composition. However, one of the big things I didn’t like one bit was the lyrical content. I will never believe that songs full of expletive material are necessary, because to me, it ruins and degrades the beauty of the music. In this case, it somewhat works, though I personally disagree with it. Hopefully all that makes sense, I know I probably worded it kind of weird. That’s just the big problem I have with rap, because all the language and content just isn’t needed. Anyways, that was my big problem with it. I also didn’t like how electronic the album is. Another problem I have with rap is that a lot of it is just synthesizers and soundboards, and I find the lack of instruments or physical performance disturbing. Now I don’t know specifically how Earl Sweatshirt recorded this, and he may have used a lot of real instruments, but just from listening to it, it sounds a bit too fake for me. I know I’ll get lit up for saying that, but it’s true. Overall, I did like some of the beats and melodies, but the whole thing just wasn’t my cup of tea. I guess I’d recommend it to rap fans, but I know I won’t listen to it again.
