The Taking of Deborah Logan (2014)
The Taking of Deborah Logan
Despite the 50% Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes, I actually enjoyed this. It was pretty fun and had some great moments that made me jump. I’m a sucker for found footage or documentary style movies, which this is. The sense of realism and natural reactions really sells a movie, which is why I liked it. The story wasn’t anything super great, and reminded me a bit of ‘Hell House LLC’. I liked the Alzheimer’s approach, which was something I hadn’t seen before in these kinds of movies. Everything after that was kind of cliche. But I loved the way everything was shot, from the opening moments to the final cave scene. It definitely had me on the edge of my seat at times. The cast was also surprisingly good, especially the lady who played Deborah. She scares the heck out of me. Overall, this movie was solidly made, and though the writing isn’t always there and feels very similar to other movies, it’s an entertaining watch that’s good around Halloween time. I’d probably recommend this to most found footage horror fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
