The Predator (2018)
The Predator
This is basically the Suicide Squad but fighting a Predator. Of course, no one has superheroes, but it’s a team of random people with skills who have to fight an alien from outer space. I don’t think any of this movie felt original to me at all, from the characters, to the plot, and the forced comedy. It almost felt like if Marvel tried to make an R-rated Predator movie. All the characters were horribly written, and the acting was certainly nothing to brag about. I liked seeing Sterling K. Brown and Keegan Michael-Key, but even then, they were never anything memorable. The dialogue was really crappy and felt so fake. But on the flipside, it was so bad that I actually found myself cracking up, mostly making fun of the writing. One of those “it’s so bad it’s good” movies. One of my biggest complaints was how choppy and so utterly fake the special effects were. The overuse of CGI really sets this back from the other Predator movies. Sometimes it wasn’t super horrible, but a lot of times, it stuck out like a sore thumb. The designs of the Predators were decent, but didn’t look as good as the original Predator. Overall, this movie definitely feels empty and unoriginal, but sometimes it’s so goofy that you can’t help but somewhat enjoy some of the fun moments. I don’t think it’s one I’d watch again, nor recommend, unless you just enjoy crappy sci-fi/action films.
