Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991)

Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare

  • This was a huge step up from the previous two Elm Street movies, and this one actually has a good story that’s somewhat easy to follow. I really liked how it involves Freddy’s actual family, and it provides a lot of background for the character. I also like how the story revolved around Freddy and his daughter, instead of the other characters in the movie. It was one of the few Elm Street movies that actually kept me invested in the plot, and although it was still extremely corny, it was actually decent. The story was really one of the only things good about this movie, though. I was not a fan of any of the characters, and most of them were really obnoxious. I really liked Freddy in this one, and to me, it’s one of his best performances in the Elm Street franchise. I also really liked how we got to see Freddy before he originally died, and it was cool to see his character without his burns. It almost made him feel human, although he was still very evil. In terms of effects, most of them were pretty bad, except for a select few scenes. This definitely had the 90’s feel to it when it came to the graphics, and there were lots of sparkles and colors. It didn’t fit the feel of the movie at all, and made it almost feel comical instead of horror-y. There was also a scene that was extremely stupid and pointless, and it was extremely awful. It was very cheesy and dumb, which to some, is entertaining. I just didn’t care for it. The best part of the movie though was being able to see Johnny Depp show up for a few seconds, which was extremely awesome. The ending of the movie also ended on some horrible and very random effects, although (spoiler) Freddy’s death was fun to watch. Overall, this movie wasn’t great, but still fun to watch because it actually pulls you in. I probably wouldn’t recommend it, although if you love corny horror movies, this would be for you.
