Barbie
Coming in as the 37th perfect movie in Berry History, this did not disappoint one bit. When I saw the trailer for the first time, I figured it was gonna be good. But I had no idea it would be THIS good. It’s everything I was hoping for, and more. I think the best thing about it is how it’s not necessarily a kids movie. Young teens would enjoy it, but there’s actually more serious moments than you would think. When you look through all the smiles and jokes, there is a deeper message, which is cool to look for. The story helps shape that, while throwing in plenty of laughs. It’s obviously very comedic, but it’s not in your face constantly. You get plenty of breaks to appreciate the production and writing behind the movie. It’s a great blend. The sets were absolutely phenomenal, and some of the best I’ve seen in a long time. Literally everything has the perfect, plastic look that Barbie’s stuff has. It makes you feel as if you’re actually living in Barbieland. The colors were very vivid and eye-catching, with gorgeous cinematography. Each shot has so much detail. It would be cool to go back and look for little easter eggs. And speaking of easter eggs, there were some awesome references to ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’, ‘The Godfather’, ‘Rocky’, ‘Grease’, and of course, ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’ (cause why not?) The cast was absolutely spot on, with perfect casting for Barbie and Ken (obviously). Margot Robbie was fantastic as always, Ryan Gosling just delivered my favorite role of his, and I could go on. Everyone contributes in a cool way. Also, the soundtrack was very catchy. Overall, this movie is perfect in every way, with a great message to be yourself and live in harmony. I’d definitely recommend it if you like comedies, though if you don’t have the right Kenergy, you may not like this. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now! And remember: you are Kenough.
