The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (2024)
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare
I was extremely close to seeing this in theaters, but I really wasn’t missing much. When this film is good, it’s good, but it does have some slow moments. I think whenever there wasn’t any action, I was just like, “Alright, let’s get to the next cool scene.” As a whole, I still enjoyed it, but there could’ve been maybe 15-20 minutes shaved off. It would’ve been a lot better in that case. The pacing wasn’t super great, because it was kind of off and on between drama and action. Sometimes it works, but this one felt like a couple weird bumps. But besides that, that’s really my only huge complaint. The story itself was pretty solid, though it did feel similar to other action films. It’s the classic “secret mission to defeat the enemy” plotline, but it’s pretty entertaining, with great characters. Henry Cavill was the big selling point to watch this film for me, and he delivers. His performance was both very suave and very silly, and I love these kinds of action characters he plays. Alan Ritchson was also very fun, and all I’m saying is that it’s time for him to play Batman. Not like he acted like Batman in this, but his physicality and serious humor is perfect. The action was fun, and not too graphic, but just graphic enough. It has a good sense of realism without feeling way over the top. After all, this is based on a true story, so it helps when things feel a little more authentic. Overall, this film is solid, and though there’s some things that could’ve worked out better, it’s still decently entertaining. It’s hard to beat fun WWII action when a bunch of Nazi’s get shot and blown up. I’d recommend this to most espionage/action fans.
