I hate to say this, but I didn’t enjoy this as much as I thought I would. Don’t get me wrong, it was still good, but I definitely wasn’t as big a fan compared to ‘Get Out’. I will definitely say that Jordan Peele certainly has a mind for these kinds of movies, and this one certainly shows it. It’s original, unique, pretty creepy, and even comedic at times. I’ve only ever heard good things about it, and I can understand why. I think it’s just a few minutes longer than it needs to be, although it fits everything in in a good way. The two hour space is filled wisely. However, it did kind of lose me in a few places, though not super bad. Some of it also isn’t as understandable as I would’ve liked it to be. By the end, the majority of the movie makes sense, and it’s also up to the viewer to figure out what’s going on. That’s usually a good thing. The story was good, and though it took me a few minutes to really get into it, I eventually did, and stayed sucked in until the end. Like I said, it was original and unique. Much like ‘Get Out’, there are some very surprising turns, and there isn’t much I can say without spoiling anything. It’s just one of those movies you need to see yourself to understand what’s going on. The cast did a fantastic job, and everyone contributes in their own special way. Lupita Nyong’o especially. Her dual performance was flawless, and probably one of my favorite female performances in recent years. Both physically and emotionally, she carries all the scenes she’s in. Kudos to her. The soundtrack was also extremely well put together, both the original score, and a selection of songs that really help with the mood. Also, hats off to Jordan for getting permission to use ‘Good Vibrations’. That made me very happy. Overall, this movie definitely plays with your mind, and I’d probably recommend it to all horror/thriller fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
