Land of the Dead (2005)
Land of the Dead (2005)
I went into this movie expecting an entertaining movie, but this one is severely disappointing. The epic slaying of zombies getting their heads blown off was one of the few things enjoyed watching, and the Enjoyment Score would’ve been lower had it not been for the awesome destruction of dead bodies. The story wasn’t super great, and though it was actually written pretty well, it didn’t make any sense for a zombie movie. There was an actual society/community of people surviving, and I didn’t like the fact that there was still business and stuff like that. I also absolutely hated the fact that the zombies were used to make a profit off of (people could pay to take pictures with them, use them for target practice, bet on zombie fights, etc). All of that completely takes away the whole survival feel, and though they are still dangerous, it doesn’t make them feel like a threat. Another thing I couldn’t stand was how the movie actually focuses on certain zombies, which was really weird. It follows them throughout the whole movie, and it takes away from the main story and protagonists. I also hated how the writers made the zombies be able to figure things out like regular humans. For example, figuring out how to get through things by using objects or tools. It completely erases the whole zombie movie feel. The characters of the movie were pretty good, and though I didn’t care for them, they had good backstories and the acting was good. Overall, the movie wasn’t too hot, and it had a somewhat weak soundtrack. I won’t watch it again, but I would still recommend it for zombie lovers.
