• This was probably one of the biggest let downs of 2023 for me. I was so excited to watch this, and man was it disappointing. I know I didn’t get my expectations too high or anything, but it just never grabbed hold of me like I wanted it to. The first 45ish minutes were pretty solid, but after that, I just got bored. I’m not sure how, as I did mostly enjoy the store. Despite the sci-fi setting, it felt somewhat realistic in many aspects. The whole “human vs AI” thing was awesome. I always love when technology goes evil. I’m a firm believer that technology (not just necessarily AI) will destroy humanity at some point, so watching this felt accurate. The last half was kind of just a mental decline for me. I didn’t like the ending that much, and not really how the characters ended up either. I’m not saying that the writing was bad or anything, I just didn’t care for it. One thing I did love? Those visual effects. Holy crap. They were absolutely amazing, and some of the best of 2023. Not even close. Not just the Nomad, but the designs of the AI and robots were amazing. It all looked so real. Everything was so well crafted. However, I don’t think the VFX was enough to save this movie for me. It was decently made, but I just had struggles sitting through it. I think I’d recommend it to most sci-fi enjoyers, and I’ll probably rewatch it at some point in the future, but at the moment, I’m not a huge fan.
