Battle for the Planet of the Apes (1973)
Battle for the Planet of the Apes
This is the final entry of the original Apes film series, and unfortunately, it doesn’t end on a super high note. This wasn’t as bad as the third movie, but it’s definitely one of the poorer ones. I don’t think it adds too much new information to the series, it mostly just restates the intentions of the Apes shown in the previous movie. It then shows the final battle between human and apes, you get your grand conclusion, and that’s that. I really don’t have that much to write about this movie. Like I literally just said, it doesn’t add anything too new. Some of the characters return, with some new additions. I did enjoy seeing Muppets legend Paul Williams as Virgil. He was unintentionally funny, and my favorite character of the movie. Roddy McDowall shines again, although his performance wasn’t as great as in previous movies. Lastly, the makeup was whatever, nothing spectacular. Same as we’ve seen before. Overall, this movie was mediocre, and it’s not one that really caps off the series like I would’ve wanted it to. Not one I’d watch again, unless I’m doing an Apes marathon.
