Boston Strangler (2023)
Boston Strangler
As a fan of true crime, especially serial killers (I hope my FBI agent doesn’t see this), I’ve been excited to watch this for months now. It’s kind of what I expected: not too good, but not too bad. It’s mediocre at best, but still pretty enjoyable. The entire aesthetic of the movie is really good, with that drabby 60’s feel you find in many crime movies. It fits the mood and tone really well. Very mysterious and suspect. The story was pretty solid, although it didn’t always seem to lead anywhere. It kind of felt like it was going in circles, but it does wrap up decently towards the end. It’s interesting how the cases are still unsolved today, which only makes it more mysterious. I don’t think the movie sheds any new light or anything, but the perspective from the two female reporters is a really refreshing change. I liked seeing from the women’s points of view, and how the sexism of the 60’s interfered with their work. I thought Kiera Knightley was a very good choice to play someone like that. The rest of the cast was alright, nothing too notable. Overall, this movie wasn’t anything special, but it was entertaining enough for a while. Don’t hurt yourself trying to see this, but I do think it’s a decent one time watch.
