The Good Half (2024)
The Good Half
One of my biggest pet peeves, specifically in the film industry, is when musicians make an attempt at an acting career, usually do a crappy job in a crappy film. But Nick Jonas showed up and did a great job, in a great film. Yes, he was in some silly things in the past, but I really enjoyed seeing him in a serious role and serious film. The only big reason why I watched this was because he is in it, and my sister is obsessed with the Jonas Brothers, so I had no choice. Plus, Robert Scwartzman directed it, who is the brother of Jason Schwartzman (my boy Schwartzy), and a member of the Coppola family. He does a good job with it, even though the critics don’t agree with me. I’ll admit that there are a lot of cliches and a couple awkward moments, but I think it does a good job of showing grief and family drama, with a good spritz of comedy on top of it. It delivers some good messages and by the end, you feel hopeful and with a sense of accomplishment. At least I did. The cast was good, though nothing spectacular. As said, Nick Jonas was good, with a good supporting performance from Brittany Snow. Those two were a good one-two punch. Also, seeing one of my favorite Scream alumni David Arquette was nice. Lastly, the soundtrack was good, as it provided a modern yet nostalgic vibe, which helps with the mood and storytelling. Overall, this film was good, and though it’s nothing new and it has some minor weak elements, I enjoyed it, and I’m glad I watched it. I’d probably recommend it to most dramedy fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
