Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut (2006)
Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut
When it comes to directors, their films, and studio interference, I always prefer the director's cut. Whatever their vision is for a film, that’s what should be put on screen. In that sense, I do think this cut of Superman II is superior to the Lester version. It’s how Donner wanted it to be made, therefore, this is the ultimate version. However; funnily enough, I think I prefer the Lester version more. I’m just not a huge fan of some of the creative decisions that Donner had, such as Superman destroying the Fortress of Solitude, turning back time at the end, and a couple others. As I said, that’s what he wanted, and it still turned out extremely well. I just like the story and characters more from the Lester version. I just think if I had to pick a version to watch, it would be the original.
