Alien3 (1992)
Alien3
It’s a bit disappointing to go from ‘Aliens’ to this. Both ‘Alien’ and ‘Aliens’ are two of the best sci-fi movies ever made, so after seeing those two, you’re on a high that you want to continue. Unfortunately, watching this after seeing those two was a smack in the face. It’s such a downgrade, and though I love David Fincher, this was not his greatest movie. I think the two biggest complaints I have are the writing and visuals. The story was extremely lame, and just downright boring. We never see anything that we haven’t really seen before. It’s literally just Ripley surviving against a xenomorph (again), only in a different setting and with some new characters. A lot of the dialogue and characters were really cheesy. I did really like seeing Doctor Who legend Paul McGann, though. Secondly, the visuals were absolutely awful, with a horrible, sick looking environment and color scheme. It made a lot of scenes really hard to look at, and just a gross step down from the cinematography of the first movies. One thing I did really was the action. Even though it wasn’t really present until the end, it was done well. I liked all the deaths and chase scenes. The prosthetics and makeup was great again, though some of the CGI was a bit trashy at times. Overall, this movie wasn’t great, but not the worst thing I’ve ever seen. I think the action really saves it, but that’s about it. I’d only recommend it if you’re an Alien fan.
