Alien (1979)
Alien
As one of the most iconic and impactful sci-fi movies ever, I can certainly understand why. Ridley Scott brings in such a great film, which obviously kickstarted a whole franchise. The way he's able to deliver a horror/sci-fi flick that doesn't have to rely on gore or jumpscares is awesome. The two biggest components of the horror aspect is suspense and anticipation. It really works well that way, cause it gets you uneasy about what might happen. The plot is obvious; alien takes over the spaceship, and the crew has to fight to survive. Nothing super unique, but it’s extremely well done. Of course, the makeup and effects department absolutely shines, and without them, this movie is nothing. The design of the xenomorph is so spot on. I couldn’t get enough of it. Honestly, the baby xenomorph was kind of cute, and I couldn’t really take it seriously. But once it grows, then watch out. The two people I loved most in this were (obviously) Sigourney Weaver as the one and only Ripley, and the other being Doctor Who legend, the late Sir John Hurt. Unfortunately, he was killed off a little too early, but it was still cool to see him. The entire cast did awesome. The soundtrack was also sweet. Overall, this movie was very well made, and delivers a heart thumping, stress inducing experience. I’d definitely recommend it to all sci-fi/thriller fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
