An American in Paris (1951)
An American in Paris
This is easily Gene Kelly’s best film, only behind Singin’ in the Rain. I very much enjoyed it, and Gene Kelly has definitely cemented himself into my top 5 favorite actors of all time. The story was interesting to watch, as it involves a good amount of romance, as well as a personal story. One thing I really love is how it takes place in Paris, and not just some random town or city. It was cool to see the French architecture and atmosphere. It helps build the romantic mood of the movie. All the characters were great, and the similar yet diverse attitudes made the movie enjoyable. Obviously Gene Kelly was the best, and his performance was spot on. And of course, his dancing was so perfect. The choreography was actually done by him, which explains why it’s all so great. It only goes to show how talented he is, both physical-wise, and creativity-wise. The music was also absolutely superb. The score was done by George Gershwin, which explains why it’s so perfect. Gershwin is easily a musical genius, and this score only proves my point. Gershwin’s music combined with Kelly’s vocals are one of the best duos I’ve seen on screen. Overall, this movie was extremely good, and I’d highly recommend it to all fans of musicals. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
