Step Brothers (2008)
Step Brothers
Well, I finally decided to sit down and watch this. It was a long time coming, and I’ve been meaning to see it for some time now. I gotta say, I wasn’t super impressed. I knew it wasn’t gonna be a masterpiece or anything. I figured it would be dumb and stupid, which it absolutely was. I definitely didn’t find it as funny as a lot of other people do. I know this one is an audience pleaser, but I wasn’t a super huge fan. That being said, there were certainly several scenes and lines that I really liked, but there were also some that were just hard to sit through. I think Will Ferrell’s and John C. Reilly’s whining made it kind of hard. They both had some good moments, but their immaturity was a little unbearable at times. I know that’s kind of the point, but they overstay their welcome very quickly. That goes for the story as well. It was very simple and not super well written. Like the whole movie, it felt useless and cheesy. Again, I know that as the aim, but I personally just wasn’t a fan. I’m definitely being a little too harsh here. Not that the movie is horrible, it’s just not…great. I didn’t really care for any of the characters, either. Everyone is just obnoxious. Way too in your face. Now, just because I don’t like the characters doesn’t mean I don’t like the actors. Ferrell and Reilly did a good job of being a pair of spoiled, lazy, annoying 40 year old men. Also, why didn’t Adam Scott get nominated? He was absolutely hilarious, even though he was an absolute jerk. Every line he said was something to laugh at. He’s got a brilliant talent at comedic deliveries. Overall, this movie was pretty corny, but it had some high points that were funny. It’s not one I think I’d watch again anytime soon, but it’s worth revisiting every once in a while.
