Lake Mungo (2008)
Lake Mungo
This scared the absolute crap out of me, and I’m a complete idiot for watching this before bed. My mind is reeling with what I just witnessed. A lot of reviews I’ve read don’t have great things to say about this, but on the flip side, a lot of reviews praise it as one of the best found footage films ever made. I agree. Jordan Peele actually went on record saying it was one of the movies that scared him the most. I know it did for me. There are images I currently cannot get out of my head, and I’m kicking myself right now. There’s no way I’m going to sleep tonight. The movie is filmed in a documentary style, which was PERFECT. At times, I didn’t think that I was watching a horror movie. I legitimately thought I was watching a true crime case. Plot-wise, I’m not going to say anything. You just need to see it for yourself. But production-wise, it was beautifully made. The use of grainy video and images was the cherry on top. The low quality just makes it so much scarier. That’s really all I want to say, other than I am scared for my life right now. For those who have seen this, the Lake Mungo scene with you-know-what is sticking with me, and I’m about to cry like a man child. Someone please come save me. But anyways, I’d recommend it to all horror fans, especially (and obviously) if you like found footage. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
