Friday the 13th (2009)
So this is basically ‘Friday the 13th: Part 2’, just made 28 years later. I’m saying that to say this: originality is not this movie’s strong point. I mean, it’s a simple reboot. No more, no less. Nothing we haven’t seen before, although I did enjoy the more modern take on the FT13 lore. It seemed very stale through several parts, although like I literally just said, I love how it feels more modern and dark. Although it was pretty much the same as some previous FT13’s, there was one key element that looked the same, but wasn’t: Jason. His design was very similar to past movies, with some slight variations. But as a character, he seemed so much more predator-like. He was basically Rambo with a hockey mask. In the 80’s, Jason was a bulky dumb thing that moved somewhat slowly when going after people. In this one, he moved quickly and had more weapon skills (like archery). It was REALLY cool to see, because it only made Jason that much more terrifying. But besides that, it was the only interesting thing to watch. The deaths were cool and stuff, but it lacked anything else. Just another slasher movie. I think I’d probably recommend it if you like corny horror movies, but you’re not missing out on anything.
