Dream Scenario (2023)
Dream Scenario
I had no idea this would be the way it would be. Half of what I was thinking it would be was what it was, but the other half was very interesting and even tragic. I mean, it’s A24, so you can always expect something unique and usually breathtaking. That was the case for this movie. Also, Ari Aster produced it, so that also explains a good deal. True Aster fans know. I just loved what he, the director, and the writers did for this movie. Even though the story is obviously something of fantasy, it still feels super realistic. For the majority of the movie, it felt like I was in Paul’s shoes. You really get to feel for him, and it seriously tugs at your emotions. This is easily one of the most investing movies of this year. For almost every second, I was completely immersed in literally everything. The whole thing was so well crafted. I can’t say too much because of spoilers, but it takes some turns that make sense, but also catch you off guard at the same time. The characters help so much with that as well. I have to give some serious kudos to Nicolas Cage for this role. I got so sympathetic for his character, and the crap he went through was just heartbreaking. It was so much sadder than what I was expecting it to be. I left the theater genuinely feeling worn down and depressed. After a little bit you’re fine, but it just left me feeling horrible, but in a good way. It’s so complex, and I feel so many different ways about this movie, but all of them are good ways. The only thing I wasn’t a huge fan of was the last several minutes of the movie. It takes a weird jump into the future, and it didn’t make total sense to me, but of course, the movie doesn’t always make sense. Overall, it was extremely well made, and I enjoyed it immensely. I’d definitely recommend it to all comedy/thriller/fantasy fans. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
