Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2 (2013)
Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Part 2
In terms of DC animation, this may be the greatest one ever made, only behind Flashpoint. It’s absolutely phenomenal in every possible aspect, which is exactly what I was expecting. I’d honestly even go as far as saying that it’s one of the greatest comic book movies ever made. The accuracy is so on point, and the influence it had on Zack Snyder, along with other directors, is extremely evident. The thing I love most is how the story does such a good job of focusing on Batman, while still including the side characters in very important roles. Plus, it’s the most infamous version of Batman fighting Superman. As good an action director that Zack Snyder is, you simply can’t beat this version of the original Batman vs Superman. The story is so well written, with so much tension and detail in each shot. The way it matches the comic nearly panel by panel……my goodness. It made me so happy. The action was flawless. The suits were spectacular and perfectly embodied the characters. The dialogue is both original and true to the comic. My head is just reeling right now. Of course, I’ll always prefer the comic, between it’s one of the best ever written. But this film does the absolute best job of adapting it. Even better than the first part of the film duology. The voice performances were amazing, with Peter Weller casually turning in one of the best Batman performances of all time. Considering it’s an older Batman, too. I also really loved Mark Valley as Superman. Overall, this film is an absolute masterpiece, and the duology should be watched by all superhero fans. Whether you like DC or not, this should be enjoyed by everyone. All I would say is read the comic first. You’ll absolutely appreciate these two Dark Knight’s so much more. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
