Frances Ha (2012)
Frances Ha
I’ll tell you this right now: it’s going to be extremely difficult to put into words how I feel about this film. And I mean that in the best way possible. My brain has been overloaded with one of the most beautiful scenes I’ve ever seen. I don’t even know if I can describe the masterfulness behind it. It’s so simple, so easy, so smooth, yet it packs such a big punch that leaves you breathless and grateful. The worst part is that I don’t even know if I can say why. Like, I can, but it’s a feeling, and I can’t make you feel my feelings. I’m actually starting to get mad right now, because I truly don’t think I can explain why this film is so beautiful. Everything I say is such an understatement about how good it is. The characters are fantastic, and I think I speak for most people when I say there is a particular attraction to Frances. She’s so vulnerable and spastic, and you learn to love her. Such an amazing performance from Greta Gerwig, who also helped write this. You can definitely see that she did. The entire direction from Noah Baumbach was so perfect that I think it’s gonna be a long time until I see another film as well executed as this one. The cinematography was amazing, and the black and white color scheme gives the film such a nostalgic and homey feel. The score was gorgeous and contributes to the very warm and fuzzy mood of the film. There’s so much more I wanna say but I don’t think I physically. It’s quite literally one of the best films I’ve ever seen in my life. The only reason it doesn’t have a perfect score is because even though there were times I felt very much like Frances, there were also a couple times I didn’t, so there were a couple scenes where it didn’t always click. But still……IT’S CINEMA. I will recommend this to literally every living person I meet. This film is officially Berry Approved, go watch it now!
