Back to the Future Part III (1990)

Back to the Future Part III

  • The final movie in this trilogy, although it was decently made, it still wasn’t as good as the first. It was definitely a stronger movie than the second, but nothing will ever beat the first one. I mostly liked the story overall, as it gives a fun perspective of the 1880’s. Although, to me, it kind of mirrors the second movie, so it didn’t feel as original as I wanted it to. But, I really liked the whole Western aspect, as it gives a fresh spin to the trilogy. In the first two movies, you either see 30 years in the past or 30 years in the future, whereas in this one, you actually get to experience a bigger leap in time. Because of that, I really liked the setting in this one. It doesn’t necessarily have an authentic Western feel, but more of a satirical/comedic take. You don’t really laugh at it, but you also don’t have to take it seriously. All the sets were great as well, and like I said, it gives the feel of a more comedic and exaggerated take at Western life. The characters were all funny, and the costumes and makeup of the Westerners were awesome. Of the three movies in this trilogy, I think Mad Dog Tannen is easily Biff’s best character. He was super fun to watch, and provided a great antagonist. It’s also fun to see Marty’s very early family, and though it’s obviously fantastical, it’s still fun and new in its own way. The music was great as always, which is expected because of Silvestri’s great work in the first two. Some of the themes had a slight Western feel, which was great, considering the setting. The rest of the score had the fun sci-fi sound. One big complaint I have about this movie, however, is the ending. I was satisfied with what had happened in the end, until the very last few minutes. I thought it was a really odd way to end it, and though I understand why it was written the way it was, it didn’t make sense to me. But, the trilogy ended on a happy note, which is what we all wanted. Overall, I mildly enjoyed this one, and I’d recommend it to sci-fi/comedic western fans.
