Oppenheimer
“Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.” Where to begin. Coming in as the 38th perfect movie in Berry History, I have few words that can properly describe this. Of course, I’m gonna rant about it, but to TRULY understand the power behind this film, you have to see it for yourself. I guess I’ll start by saying that Chris Nolan is an absolute genius and one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. The way he’s able to adapt one man’s story the way he does is so well done. I would’ve never thought that a movie about a theoretical physicist would be remotely interesting. I was proven very, very wrong. The entire story is full of so much detail and emotion. Despite the three hour runtime, the movie felt pretty fast paced. None of the scenes took too long and were too drawn out, which is pretty rare nowadays for these kinds of movies. It flowed so well, and I never got bored for a single second. The transition from scene to scene was super smooth. Also, the constant presence of music kept it exciting and entertaining. The entire score was ridiculously well written, as Ludwig Göransson delivers yet again. It was nerve wracking and haunting, which encapsulates the entire movie. The whole cast also gives the movie a very ominous feel. The obvious standout is Cillian Murphy, who didn’t bomb one bit. It’s easily one of my favorite roles of his, if not my number one. His blank stares deliver so much emotion, while also taking it away. RDJ and Emily Blunt were also huge standouts, with other amazing performances from Gary Oldman, Josh Hartnett, Matt Damon, and of course, the MVP of the movie, Devon Bostick. It’s one of the most perfectly cast movies I’ve ever seen. Lastly, the visuals of this movie were freaking incredible. Not only were Oppenheimer’s quantum thoughts really cool, but that atomic detonation scene was SWEET. I won’t say anything about it for spoiler reasons, just know that you need to experience it in IMAX or RPX. It was almost devastating, yet very beautiful at the same time. In fact, that whole scene had my heart racing, and it made me very nervous. Overall, this is one of the best movies of 2023 (if not the best), and I’d HIGHLY recommend it to everyone. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it NOW!
