Thor (2011)
Thor
For Thor’s origin story, this movie exceeded expectations. Although it was good, it definitely took me a little bit to actually get into it. I’m usually not a huge fan of medieval/Norse mythology, so watching a movie about gods, foreign lands, and stuff like that doesn’t really float my boat. However, the story was great, and the characters were great as well. I totally forgot that Natalie Portman was in this, so that definitely helped keep my interest. Chris Hemsworth as Thor is definitely a great casting, and there are few others I can think of that could perfectly fit the role of Thor. Tom Hiddleston as Loki was also extremely great casting, and I’m really excited to see more of his character in the future. He was really able to get you to trust him, until (spoiler) he turns out to be the evil one. My favorite thing about this movie was how Thor had to learn to live on Earth without his powers, family, or hammer. It’s nice to see a superhero movie where the hero has to learn to live like a human. It brings him down to the same terms that we live as, which is a great concept for a movie. I wasn’t a huge fan of the main antagonists (except for Loki), and although their designs were good, I just didn’t find them exciting. I like how they are written, which is what helps make the story good. The effects in this one were pretty great, and there were two specific scenes that I really enjoyed. So far, the Marvel movies have had extremely great visuals, and this one definitely did not disappoint. I also loved the subtle entrance of Hawkeye, and though I know zero about his character, I was excited to see him enter into this movie. The music was pretty great, and it fit the action scenes really well. Overall, I would recommend this movie, and it was pretty well made. And it definitely gets a few extra points for Natalie Portman. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go see it now!
