Batman Forever (1995)
Batman Forever
Holy rusted metal, Batman! This movie is so criminally underrated, and I would even give my life for it. It’s just so entertaining, and the only reason it has a 39% on Rotten Tomatoes is because the critics don’t know how to have fun. Granted, several bits of the movie are pretty crappy, but that doesn’t stop me from absolutely loving it. I’d say that the majority of people who've seen this would probably say it’s horrible, but if you think so, then (respectfully) screw you. In fact, I actually like this more than the entire Dark Knight trilogy. Those are better movies, but I love this one so much more. I like it because it has the same vibe as a kids comic book, or something like that. It’s so colorful and laid back, while still being somewhat dark and personal at the same time. The main storyline does a great job of looking into Bruce’s mental problems and PTSD, better than most Batman movies do. You get to see what is in his mind, while still having a fun, mostly light-hearted movie. All the cast is great, though some may not agree. Personally, I think Val Kilmer absolutely kills it as Batman/Bruce, and he’s my third favorite Batman of all time. I even like him more than Keaton and Bale. I also love Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carrey in this one. Their interpretations are great. I wish we could’ve seen Billy Dee Williams continue as Harvey Dent, but Tommy Lee still does a knock out job, plus, his makeup is awesome. Carrey also does a very unique and special take on the Riddler, who is my favorite Batman villain. It’s odd, but still really good. Also, I really like Chris O’Donnell as Robin. A lot of the effects in the movie are very questionable, but still kind of fun and cheesy. I like the score, although the main Keaton theme is, unfortunately, not present. But, the score still adds the same feeling that Burton’s Batman films had. Overall, the movie is stupid and feels childish, but I still totally love it. It’s not one to take seriously, but if you’re looking for a good, corny watch, then this is it. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now!
