Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
Solo: A Star Wars Story
If you don’t think this is an awesome movie, then you’re a total nutjob. Ron Howard showed up and absolutely delivered such a fun and entertaining Star Wars story. Han Solo has always been my favorite Star Wars character (although he’s probably tied with Kit Fisto), so when this movie was released, I went bonkers. Seeing it in theaters was amazing, and it provides great fan service while still being original. The only time you ever get to see Han in his entirety is the original trilogy and Episode VII. So, seeing his past rather than his present/future is so cool (and that goes for Chewie, too). It’s very fulfilling in many ways. I love how his origin is basically like everyone else’s. He’s just a nobody coming from nothing, and he works his way up. It’s very cliche, but I’m here for it. Also, expanding the lore of the Empire and the Rebellion is just so sweet. The overall story is well written, though like I said, cliche. Some bits feel like it could basically be a long episode of The Mandalorian, but with different characters. Same tone, same mood, with a sprinkle of humor. And Alden Ehrenreich absolutely kills it. No, he isn’t Harrison Ford, but he pays honor to the role. Both physically, mentally, and emotionally, he pulls it off in almost every way. Some people didn’t like his portrayal, but I sure did. Also, Donald Glover as Lando? In the words of Kylo Ren: MORE! Two last things before I end this: 1) the score was absolutely amazing. Both John Williams and John Powell deliver, and though it isn’t on the same levels as Episode I, IV, V, or VI, it’s still a knockout of a soundtrack. 2) The special effects were absolutely stunning. I can’t believe how good they turned out. There are so many scenes that are just so beautiful yet so simple. Overall, this movie is super great, and a lot of people give it hate, all I can give it is love. Plus, it has, arguably, my favorite Star Wars tease out there (although it won’t lead anywhere, but still). I’d recommend this to all sci-fi fans, even if you haven’t seen Star Wars. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
