Air Force One (1997)

Air Force One

  • This is easily one of the most thrilling movies I’ve ever seen, and for the majority of the movie, I was constantly on the edge of my seat. Although there were some moments that seemed completely unrealistic, most of the movie felt extremely authentic. The reason this movie is so good is because of how realistic it feels. It was filmed in a way that felt more like a dramatized non-fictional story, rather than just an action thriller. To me, it felt so real that I was almost scared in a few scenes. It was extremely tense, and Gary Oldman definitely helped that factor out. He perfectly fits his role, and he makes for a terrifying antagonist. Usually, I get pretty tired with the typical Russian terrorist characters, but in this case, I absolutely loved the way Gary played his role. The rest of the cast was absolutely outstanding as well. I really liked Glenn Close as the VP. She was independent, powerful, and downright cool. I really enjoyed seeing a woman as vice president, and it’s nice seeing a woman being the one in charge and having to make some of the hardest decisions she’d have to make. And of course, I have to mention Harrison freaking Ford. He absolutely killed it as President Marshall. He’s definitely one of the coolest movie characters I’ve seen. Another reason this movie is great is because it shows the POTUS actually having to fend for himself without the Secret Service. He has to take matters into his own hands and actually take on the terrorists by himself. It really makes the POTUS like a total beast, and in a way, it felt kind of like an Indiana Jones/Rambo movie. The score was extremely good, and like the movie itself, it reminded me of Rambo. It has a really great main theme, and it’s awesome that Jerry Goldsmith wrote the whole score in only 12 days. My only complaint about the movie is some of the effects. Most of them were pretty good, but there were some moments that you could obviously tell it was CGI. Of course, it was 1997, and it was a bit cheesy. Overall though, this was a fantastic movie, and I would highly recommend it. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go watch it now!
