American Psycho (2000)
American Psycho
When someone says Christian Bale, the very first person that comes to mind is Patrick Bateman. To me, this is his best role (that I’ve seen), and I love it so much. Granted, the movie is very disturbing and dark, but he puts on such a great performance. I would even go as far to say that this is a perfect movie, except for one scene that I’m not a fan of (hence the 99% instead of a 100%). The movie is based on the book, which I probably won’t ever read. But the movie is so great that I feel like I don’t need to read it. The first time I ever saw this movie, I really didn’t care for it. But, it was so much better the second and third time, and I really appreciate the effort that went into it. I really, really love the story, as it reminds me of Joker and other psychological thrillers I’ve seen. It does a fantastic job of putting you directly inside the mind of a psychopathic killer, easily one of the best jobs I’ve seen. Once you finish the movie, you’re really left questioning reality and fantasy, which is what a good psychological movie does. I like how it leaves you to decide for yourself what was real and what wasn’t (much like Joker). Also, it really opens your eyes, because these people actually exist. They are your everyday neighbors or coworkers, and I love how this movie shows that figurative mask that they wear. And like I said, this is Christian Bale’s movie. He does a fantastic job, and brings the spotlight on him. Plus, because of him, we now have all the awesome sigma male and sigma Bale memes. I also really enjoyed Willem Dafoe’s role and performance as well. In each scene, it’s fun to figure out whether he knows or not. Though he only has a few scenes, he really stands out in each one. The score was also really good as well. I like the use of the 80’s music, which authenticates the time and setting. The original score is also great, as it reminisces a lot of Hitchcock’s Psycho. The music gives the movie the same feel as Psycho, which is absolutely perfect. Overall, this movie is ridiculously good, especially the last few minutes and the ending. I would highly recommend it to everyone who likes psychological thrillers and horrors. Also, it has a top 10 movie poster of all time. This film is officially Berry Approved, so go check it out now! Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to return some videotapes. I have to get to Dorsia later.
