Casablanca (1942)
Casablanca
This was such a beautiful movie. The story, the cinematography, and the quality was so spot on for a 1942 film, and that’s what helps make this movie so great. From the opening to the ending, this is one that definitely keeps you in its clutch the whole time, and even though most of the scenes are just slow dialogue, the script was super good and kept me entertained almost the whole time. The music was really good, and Herman Hupfeld did such an amazing job on the song “As Time Goes By”, which is an absolute grand slam of a song. It had such a strong presence that connected the entire movie, and it was so beautiful to listen to. Two things I particularly enjoyed and I want to mention is this: 1) I absolutely loved the setting and location, and I really liked how even though it was in the middle of WWII, they kept the presence of war throughout the movie without needing to physically show any fighting, and 2) Bogart was so good in this movie. Even though his voice might not always show the most emotion of the cast, he was able to help tell the story through the emotion in his eyes in many scenes. This film is officially Berry Approved, so here’s looking at you, kid.
